We are offering another of our popular chess days, run by Tim Onions for the Abbey School in Torquay. The day will consist of chess tournaments, together with breaks outside (weather permitting), and a slot for swimming in the school’s lovely heated indoor pool for those who would like. We will conclude the day with some crazy chess. Your child is supervised and looked after by the staff for the day and unlike most other chess events it will not be possible for parents to stay.

SECTIONS
Years 4-8 this time (and year 9s by invitation). Sections to be decided based on the spread of age groups.
Please note age group based on age at 1st September 2023.
ENTRY FEE £27.00
PRIZES - these will be awarded to the first three places in each section. Other prizes will be awarded according to the size of the entry. Certificates will be awarded to all players.
PLAY will commence at 9.30am. Children will be supervised from 9am, and ideally need to arrive by 9.15am. The day will finish at 4pm with the prize giving; parents are welcome to arrive from 3.45pm if they wish to come to this. There will be supervised play in the school’s playground between games (weather permitting). Clocks will be used.
LOCATION The school is located next to the model village in the heart of St. Marychurch (use the council car park next to the school). Walk round and enter through the staff car park and large door at the front of the building.
WHAT TO BRING Children will need a packed lunch and are welcome also to bring a mid- morning snack (no products containing nuts please) and will obviously need their swimming kit if they wish to swim, and a coat and suitable shoes for outside play.

Please make sure you fill in the section about your child’s swimming ability (the pool is 1.2 metres deep throughout).
Also please ensure you have let us know about any dietary requirements or allergies, and any medical information that we should know.
Closing date for entries – midnight on Saturday 21st October if the event has not filled by then . No e mail or telephone entries can be accepted - sorry. Please note payment in full is due on booking. Once a place is booked we are unable to provide a refund in the event of cancellation or non-arrival. With notice we will be happy to swap the booking to the next Abbey chess event, subject to availability.
